Join the Group

The Nyhan Future Sustainability Research Group brings together researchers in engineering (environmental, energy and electrical), computer science, urban planning, public health and sociology. We welcome applications to join the group. We are always seeking talented researchers from a variety of backgrounds and encourage applications from minorities and under-represented groups.

Postdoctoral Research Positions

To apply for a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher within our group, please send an email to marguerite.nyhan@ucc.ie with your CV, a concise cover letter describing your past research experience, publications (should have at least one first author paper), a description of your future research interests and their alignment with our group, and details of references. Candidates should be prepared to make applications for fellowships (e.g. to the Irish Research Council) to support their postdoctoral research.

PhD & Masters Research Positions

If interested in pursuing a PhD within the group, you are welcome to make an informal enquiry to marguerite.nyhan@ucc.ie. Please include your CV and a short note detailing why you are interested in our research. Details of graduate student applications to University College Cork can be found here.

The Future Sustainability Research Group will sometimes advertise fully funded PhD positions. Prospective students may also seek their own funding from the Irish Research Council or other sources.

Those interested in pursuing a Masters by Research can also make inquiries.

Undergraduate Students

The research group will host a limited number of final year undergraduate students each year from UCC’s Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering degree and closely related disciplines. We also host a small number of summer interns each year. Interested students can email marguerite.nyhan@ucc.ie and apply to our projects through normal channels. Non-UCC undergraduate students may apply for fellowships through sources including Erasmus and the MIT MISTI Global Seed Fund.
